Top 10 Ways to Spot a Good Landscape Contractor
Like in any service industry, there are good landscape contractors, and the, well, let’s put it kindly, the not-so-good landscape contractors. So how do you spot a good landscape contractor? Here are the top 10 ways to make sure you nab the right landscape contractor for your garden project:
- They give you a thorough, detailed, fair and fairly priced written estimate/quote within a couple of days after your consultation.
- The first impression you have of them is one of quiet confidence.
- They turn up on time for your appointment, or they phone you if they are running late.
- They offer good suggestions/solutions for your landscape.
- They return your calls promptly.
- They listen to your ideas.
- Your friends/acquaintances rave about their services. At the very least, the landscape contractor has written testimonials.
- Bring images with them that illustrate their work, or they have the images on their website.
- They don’t enter your home until invited to do so. They stand back from the door so they don’t invade your space.
- The landscape contractor or staff member who answers the phone/email is courteous, friendly and helpful.

You are right, the list could be a lot longer. But I wanted to add just the top 10. Other signs signs are based more grooming: uniform/clean tidy clothes, no smell of alcohol on the breath etc.
I worked as a landscaper/gardener as well…and you just get to know things that the average joe public won’t know.
