Planting Vegetables

How much of each vegetable should I plant for a family of four?

Starting a new vegetable garden is exciting, but it can be daunting if you don’t know where to start.

One of the basic questions that you need to ask yourself is: What should I plant. This one is easy. You should plant what you like to eat. Period. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. If you don’t plant broccoli if you don’t like to eat it.

Next question: how many plants of each vegetable should I have? After all you’re not farming for a living. It’s smart to grow what you and your family will eat.

For a family of four, some easy things to grow include cucumbers (2-4), leaf lettuce (10-12), parsely (4), spinach (6)and tomatoes (4-6).

Landscape Ontario has some more vegetable estimates.
