Stephanie Judge

“I wanted it to sound personal, like you’re going to a friend’s place,” says Stephanie Judge about the name of her growing/retail greenhouse, Stephanie’s Country Greenhouse located in Caledon, Ontario.
Well, this friend has really good taste and a green thumb. Stephanie started her bedding plants, hanging baskets and planter business 12 years ago. From a small greenhouse she since expanded to six greenhouses, all a stone’s throw from the farmhouse where she grew up.
Stephanie keeps her costs down. She and her mother do most of the work, bringing in only two more people at the height of season.
“Most plants are grown from plugs because growing them from seed would cost too much in heating,” explains Stephanie. “And some seeds cost more than gold per gram, and there no guarantee that the seed will grow!”
Stephanie learnt her growing skills by gardening with her mother at a very early age. She then went on to work at other greenhouses before opening her own. She regularly attends the Ohio Florists’ Association Short Course, North America’s largest and most important florists’ trade show, for inspiration and to keep current in the industry.
As far as quality and creativeness of her hanging baskets and planters…Let’s just let say I will be coming back for more next year. Now, I will get out of way of this real gardener, and allow the photos to speak for themselves!
