Toronto’s Best Garden Tour
Whether you’re looking for inspiration or love looking at garden candy, this year’s Toronto Botanical Garden (TBG) Through the Garden Gate garden tour in The Beach neighbourhood gives you the goods. Although I only had a peek at 5 of the 26 gardens, I suspect the other gardens are just as good.
I was delighted to see that many of the common challenges of urban gardens – steep slopes, awkward spaces and tiny spaces – dealt with in style. Lots of good ideas here, people!
A definite plus were the different garden styles. From the lake view house with its expansive lawns, tall trees and simple linear lines that whispered restraint and elegance to the casual relaxed feel of the beachfront Cape Cod property.
We were lucky to have local landscape architect, Pamela Price, show one of her innovative garden creations. It’s amazing what can be done with small space when you have Pamela’s skill and imagination. For example she transformed an ugly garage wall to a vision of elegance and beauty with stainless steel water feature. I’m really looking forward to seeing her five other gardens on the tour.
Seeing the five gardens whetted my appetite for more gardens in the Beach. I definitely will be there on Father’s Day weekend (June 19 & 20) with the 30-page guide in hand. Will you be there?
