First amaryllis of the season

My first amaryllis (Hippeastrum) unfurled its beautiful blooms! In case you’re curious, that’s Mason, my Sheltie cross dog, posing next to the amaryllis.

I planted the amaryllis bulb — a no-name variety (resembles ‘Minerva’) — on November 7. It grew like a weed on steroids. Thirty days later the amaryllis opened its fabulous flower. And more blooms are on their way.

How many plants do you know that will bloom 30 days later when planted from “seed?”

  1. Exquisite! Looks like Minerva, I think? (I have several of them). I have numerous amaryllis in bloom, but am very disappointed in the Sonatini bulbs I got from a reputable company. I plan to write to the owner, not to complain, but to let him know, as I’ve never had flowers collapse on their stems before.
    Your Sheltie is lovely. :-)

    Thanks, Jodi.

Yes, I think it is a Minerva. It was a no-name box…but we can figure it it can’t we? :-)
